Rivallan Care System™

Footwear Care Guide

Proper care helps preserve the shape, comfort, appearance, and performance of your footwear for longer.

Cleaning

Remove loose dirt first, then clean gently with a soft brush, mild soap, and a damp cloth.

Drying

Air dry naturally in a shaded, ventilated area. Keep footwear away from direct heat and dryers.

Material Care

Mesh, knit, leather, suede, canvas, and synthetic materials each require different cleaning methods.

Storage

Store footwear clean and dry in a cool place, preferably inside a breathable bag or original box.

Before You Clean

  • Check the product care label or supplier instructions when available.
  • Remove the laces and detachable insoles before cleaning.
  • Brush away loose dirt, dust, sand, and dried mud first.
  • Test cleaning products on a small hidden area before wider use.
  • Use separate tools for light and dark footwear to avoid color transfer.
  • Identify the upper material before choosing a cleaning method.

General Cleaning

  • Use a soft-bristled brush or clean microfiber cloth.
  • Mix a small amount of mild soap with cool or lukewarm water.
  • Clean gently using light circular movements.
  • Use a damp cloth to remove remaining soap residue.
  • Avoid soaking the entire shoe unless the care instructions clearly allow it.
  • Clean stains as soon as possible before they settle into the material.

Laces & Insoles

  • Wash laces separately by hand using mild soap and cool water.
  • Place delicate laces inside a laundry bag if machine washing is allowed.
  • Clean removable insoles gently with a damp cloth.
  • Do not heavily soak foam insoles.
  • Allow laces and insoles to dry completely before replacing them.
  • Replace worn or damaged insoles when they no longer provide proper comfort.

Drying

  • Air dry footwear naturally at room temperature.
  • Keep footwear in a shaded, well-ventilated area.
  • Stuff shoes loosely with plain paper to help absorb moisture and maintain shape.
  • Replace damp paper as needed during the drying process.
  • Do not use a tumble dryer.
  • Do not place footwear near radiators, heaters, fireplaces, or hair dryers.
  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which may affect color, glue, and material shape.

Care by Material

Always follow the individual care label first. The guidance below provides general care for common footwear materials.

Mesh

Use a soft brush and mild soapy water. Clean gently to avoid stretching or damaging the open structure.

Knit Upper

Use light pressure with a soft cloth or brush. Avoid aggressive scrubbing, twisting, and prolonged soaking.

Canvas

Spot clean with mild soap and cool water. Air dry fully and avoid bleach, especially on colored canvas.

Leather

Wipe with a soft damp cloth and use a leather-safe cleaner when suitable. Avoid soaking and direct heat.

Synthetic Leather

Clean with a damp microfiber cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasives, and heavy saturation.

Suede & Nubuck

Use a dedicated suede brush on dry material. Avoid water where possible and use only suitable suede-care products.

Rubber

Wipe with mild soap and water using a cloth or soft brush. Avoid strong solvents that may affect the finish.

Foam Midsoles

Clean gently with a damp cloth. Avoid soaking, hard brushes, and strong chemicals that may damage the foam.

Performance Footwear Tips

  • Allow footwear to dry completely after workouts and wet conditions.
  • Rotate between pairs when possible to reduce moisture buildup and material fatigue.
  • Use footwear for its intended activity to help preserve structure and traction.
  • Clean the outsole regularly to maintain grip and remove embedded dirt.
  • Inspect the outsole, midsole, upper, and heel area for signs of excessive wear.
  • Replace heavily worn performance footwear when support or traction is reduced.

Storage

  • Store footwear only when it is clean and completely dry.
  • Keep it in a cool, dry, and ventilated place.
  • Use shoe trees or light paper stuffing to help maintain shape when appropriate.
  • Store footwear in a breathable shoe bag or original box.
  • Avoid sealed plastic bags, humid areas, and prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Do not stack heavy items on top of footwear.

What to Avoid

  • Do not use bleach or harsh cleaning chemicals.
  • Do not tumble dry or apply direct heat.
  • Do not iron footwear.
  • Do not soak leather, suede, foam, or glued footwear.
  • Do not use stiff brushes on delicate mesh or knit uppers.
  • Do not machine wash unless the product instructions specifically allow it.
  • Do not wear or store footwear while it is still damp.
  • Do not apply leather or suede products to synthetic, mesh, or knit materials.

Care Note

Always follow the product-specific care label or manufacturer instructions when available. Materials, adhesives, finishes, trims, and decorative details may require special care.
